-
What will my child learn in dance classes?
Our classes are about so much more than learning dance steps! Alongside developing strong technique and musicality, our dancers work on flexibility, strength, coordination, performance skills and, most importantly, confidence and self-belief.
-
Are your classes suitable for beginners?
Of course! Everyone has to start somewhere, and we’re delighted to welcome complete beginners to Miss Amy’s! 💕
Our classes are carefully structured to suit each dancer’s age, ability and experience, so there’s no need to worry if your child has never danced before.
Whether they’re taking their very first steps in dance or already have some experience, we’ll make sure they feel welcomed, supported and encouraged from their very first class.
-
Will my child be able to progress through the school?
Absolutely! We love watching our dancers grow, develop and progress throughout their dance journey with us. As they build their skills, strength, technique and confidence, we help them progress into more advanced classes and grade levels, ensuring they are always learning and being challenged at the right level for them.
Every dancer develops at their own pace, and we’re here to support and encourage them every step of the way. We’re so proud to watch our little stars grow from their very first class into confident, skilled young dancers!
-
Do you offer exams or qualifications?
Yes! We offer OFQUAL-regulated dance examinations through Professional Teachers of Dancing (PTD).
Examinations give our dancers the opportunity to work towards recognised qualifications, set personal goals and celebrate their progress as they develop their technique, confidence and skills.
For Parents
-
What should my child wear to class?
Each of our classes has its own dance uniform, which varies depending on the style of dance and the dancer’s grade level. We ask that all dancers wear their correct uniform to every class.
We believe having a uniform helps our dancers feel like part of the team, while also allowing our teachers to clearly see their movements and technique during class.
Full uniform details will be provided when your child joins us, and if you’re ever unsure about what your dancer should wear, we’re always happy to help!
- Does my child need special shoes or equipment?
For our ballet classes, all dancers will need a pair of ballet shoes. As our older ballerinas progress and reach the appropriate level, they may also begin pointe work and will then require pointe shoes. Pointe work is only introduced when a dancer is ready and has developed the necessary strength and technique.
For our lyrical, modern, acro and body conditioning classes, dancers can participate barefoot, so there’s no need to purchase any additional footwear.
If you’re ever unsure about what your child needs, please just ask us — we’re always happy to help!
-
Do parents stay during classes?
To help our dancers develop confidence, independence and self-belief, we ask that parents and guardians do not stay in the studio during classes.
We believe confidence starts from the very beginning, so we encourage even our littlest dancers to have the opportunity to learn, explore and enjoy their class independently in a safe and supportive environment.
We know it can sometimes feel like a big step for both children and parents, but it’s amazing to see how quickly our dancers settle, grow in confidence and begin to shine all on their own.
-
What happens if my child is nervous or doesn't want to join in?
Don’t worry — it’s completely normal for children to feel nervous when starting a new activity or joining a new group. We understand that every child is different, and some little dancers may need a little extra time to find their confidence.
Here at Miss Amy’s, we want every child who walks through our doors to feel welcomed, safe and supported. Our teachers will take extra care to help settle any nerves, gently encourage your child and give them the time they need to feel comfortable.
There’s no pressure to jump straight in — we’ll be there to encourage them every step of the way.
-
What happens if my child misses a class?
We really encourage excellent attendance wherever possible. We have a busy and exciting dance year, with our dancers taking part in examinations, competitions and our annual showcase at different points throughout the year.
Regular attendance is important to help each child feel confident, prepared and fully included in these special experiences. We want every dancer to have the opportunity to enjoy everything our school has to offer, so consistent attendance is essential.
Please note that we are unable to offer refunds or credits for missed classes, including holidays, illness or other absences.
-
Do you offer performances or shows?
Yes! One of the highlights of our dance year is our annual showcase, usually held at the end of May/beginning of June.
Our showcase is a very special occasion as every single dancer in our school gets the opportunity to perform on stage. From our tiniest dancers to our more experienced performers, we love watching each of our stars grow in confidence and shine on stage.
It’s a wonderful day filled with excitement, proud moments and lots of happy memories for our dancers and their families — and one we look forward to every year!
